overview

The IBM® 3592 tape cartridges are designed to help enterprise data centers satisfy increasing demands for data retention, security and availability while working with reduced budgets. IBM 3592 tape cartridges support media re-use by enabling the drive to reformat and upgrade prior generation media cartridges. That means existing media cartridges achieve both improved performance and capacity which helps you mitigate the impact of a tape subsystem upgrade.

Key features for the IBM 3592 Tape Cartridge

Virtual backhitch support

Improve performance for small file reads/writes and help reduce media wear with virtual backhitch support when used on TS1120 and newer tape drives.

Industry standard encryption

Enable your users to address security concerns by writing encrypted data to tape. Compatible across all TS1120 and newer tape drives.

High resolution tape directory

Leverage high-speed search and increased system performance by retrieving data faster when used on TS1140 and newer tape drives.

Statistical Analysis and Reporting System (SARS)*

Use the tape drive to monitor cartridge life and usage and help eliminate data loss due to cartridge failure when used on TS1120 and newer tape drives.

Scaled media

Leverage the ability to use a standard tape in a rapid access mode.

Economy cartridge

Reduce cost of ownership through a lower cost per cartridge. IBM 3592 tape cartridge providers faster access to data by reducing the length of the media.

Data safe mode

Gain write-once-read-many- (WORM) like protection using a standard 3592 cartridge.

Reinforced cartridge

Safeguard against accidental drops and help protect your data with a reinforced cartridge.

Multiple model and format options

Available in rewritable and WORM cartridge models and three formats including fast access, standard capacity and extended capacity.

Partitioning/IBM Spectrum Archive

Eliminate middleware and reduce tape management costs through partitioning with IBM Spectrum Archive when used on TS1140 and newer tape drives. The solution also improves usability by displaying the data stored on the tape in a file tree structure and opens new opportunities for leveraging tape technology in entertainment, manufacturing and medical environments.

compatibility

FAQ

Can I use an IBM 3592 tape in my LTO drive ?

You need an IBM 3592 tape drive to use the 3592 tape media.

Why is different capacity mentioned for Same 3592 media ?

IBM 3592 media can both be formatted for higher capacity in newere 3592 drives. For example JA tape can be formatted as 700GB , 1.0TB or 1.6TB Native in E05, E06 and E07 formats respectively.

What is the meaning of Limited Lifetime Warranty ?

For the lifetime of the Media, its covered by warranty by manufacturer. Typically the useful lifetime of the media will be defined in years and number of read/write mounts. Refer to the vendor website for more details on warranty.

What are the media identifiers for IBM 3592 tapes ?

Some of the most common Media identifiers are as follows . Refer to the specification sheet for WORM and other variants.

JA = Standard RW
JB= Extended RW
JJ= Economy RW
JC= Type C RW
JD= Type D RW

Can you give me pre-labelled custom Labels for 3592 Tapes ?

Yes, we can provide you Custom Labels from Tri-Optics ( The world's largest and only IBM authroized Media Label). We can further offer you labels in series you want ( Say AUH001JA to AUH100JA)

What is the difference between TB and TiB ?

1 TB has 10 raised by power of 12 bytes ( 1,000,000,000,000 bytes).
1 TiB has 2 raised by power of 40 bytes ( 1,099,511,627,776 bytes).
So when you see Tib Notation you will see about 9% lesser capacity compared to TB. TiB makes more sence since the data on the tape ( or hard drive) will be stored in Binary format. Why not represent the storage cpacity in Binary base.
