The linear tape open "road map" has been extended to generation 10. Each 2 years a new generation of LTO is intorduced, with Generation 7 LTO-7 scheduled to release by Last quarter of 2015. While its sure that it would have higher Capacity and transfer rates, it may also have a higher compression ratio.
To cram 16TB data on a single tape cartridge, BaFe ( Barrium ferrite ) would be utilized. We will have the Generation 7 Media and barcode labels as soon as they become available
